Abstract
Background: Pancreatitis is an inflammatory condition of the pancreatic parenchyma. In children, it is a clinical condition traditionally considered rare. The diagnosis of pancreatitis in children is made through a combination of clinical history, laboratory tests and imaging methods. Treatment of pancreatitis in children usually involves supportive care, including intravenous hydration, pain control and nutritional support. Intravenous hydration is essential to stabilize the patient's condition.
Aim: To report a rare case related to the diagnosis of acute pancreatitis in a child, characterizing its clinical presentation and possible associated factors that may be specific from the diagnostic and therapeutic approach.
Method: Case report based on the patient's medical record associated with the retrospective study of the global database for theoretical basis.
Case report: Initial measures of fasting, hydration and use of symptoms tend to present a good response to the pancreatitis picture. However, in the presence of associated factors such as peripancreatic abscess, early antibiotic therapy appears to be successful.
Conclusion: Pancreatitis in children is a significant clinical condition that requires careful diagnosis and treatment. Although less common than in adults, its recognition is increasing, and understanding of its causes and treatment continues to evolve. With early diagnosis and appropriate treatment, the prognosis for most children is positive.
