Abstract

Background: The skin is the largest organ in the human body, performing essential functions and influencing aesthetic perception and self-esteem. Skin aging motivates the search for treatments that promote rejuvenation, such as the application of retinoids, antioxidants, chemical peels, microneedling, dermal fillers, botulinum toxin, laser therapy and radiofrequency. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) has emerged as a promising alternative due to its regenerative properties, acting on cell proliferation, collagen synthesis and neovascularization, which improves skin quality and favours tissue regeneration.

Aim: To review the literature on the use of PRP in aesthetic procedures for skin rejuvenation. Method: This exploratory study was conducted using the integrative literature review method, with a focus on synthesizing clinical evidence. The search was carried out in the PUBMED database, using the following search strategy: “platelet rich plasma”[title/abstract] AND skin[title/abstract] AND rejuvenation[title/abstract], with a time cut-off of 5 years.

Results: Initially, 9 studies were identified which met the previously established search strategy. After reading the titles and abstracts, no articles were excluded.

Conclusion: The studies analyzed highlighted varied approaches to the use of PRP and its variations in skin rejuvenation and wound healing. Promising results were observed with self-growing colony extracts, PRP combined with hyaluronic acid and radiofrequency microneedling, while lyophilized and conventional PRP, when used alone, showed limited efficacy in some contexts. This evidence highlights the need for further research to standardize protocols and optimize clinical results.
